Update: Nov/06/2009 - I remade this Journal Entry. Shortened to make it easier to read and corrected the issue where I seemed to be bashing FUNimation.
What do you think about Freeza? Many people think that the character is female, a hermaphrodite or homo. Due to the facts found in DBZ and other official material, I have collected the reasons of why the heterosexual male hypothesis should be taken as the correct one, and why the others should be discarded.

------------------------------
- The female voice: FUNimation is the company who brought Dragonball to the USA. They have changed many issues in the story, the characters, etc., including the transformation of the Japanese Freeza into Frieza, whose name was not the only change implemented. His personality was notably altered, noticeable in the way the new Freeza, Frieza, acts (talks) and the fact that his American Voice Actor is in reality an Actress made many people think Frieza is female. Well, Original (Japanese) Freeza has a male voice. People should refer to the original version of an Anime, not a dub (no matter which dub, no matter where they live, no matter what language do they speak), and they must remember that the other main source of information should be the Manga itself (always noting all the changes the original Manga plot could have suffered when it was adapted to Anime).
NOT FLAMING FUNimation. - His lips: Freeza is a character created from Toriyama's thoughts about how did monsters look like when he was a child. Freeza does look like a humanized white lizard-looking alien boy (lol). He has some human characteristics, not all, because HE ISN'T HUMAN!! Isn't there the possibility of Freeza's unknown alien race to have dark colored lips from birth? It isn't make-up!!
- The way he acts: He is the most charismatic Villain in DBZ, the guy has style. And... he is a Prince who commands a Galactic Army, he must be polite, that's why he acts as an elegant dude.
- Now, think about this: Freeza was originally going to be the ultimate Villain (makes sense, the galactic prince, responsible for the annihilation of the Saiya-jin race, defeated by the Super Saiya-jin who was supposed to be a legend), but the ratings were awesome, that's why Cell's and Majin Buu's stories were added (more awesomeness. After that it came GT).
You know the way Toriyama-sama treats his female characters in his creations; there are only a few female warriors, and all of them are beautiful girls with no muscles (Juuhachigou/18, Videl, Pan, Seripa -Fasha in FUNi's dub-...).
Look at Freeza. That's not the body of a woman. Do you think Toriyama-sama will ever create a woman with such muscles and a male voice? Plus, a woman as the ultimate Villain in DBZ?? C'mon!! we have already said that the DBZ female fighters are not many, and the main Heroes and Villains are always guys. It hurts for me because I'm a girl, but well... so, FREEZA CAN'T BE A WOMAN.
- Freeza isn't homosexual: Why? Because he has a son named Kuriza, and he cares about him. Kuriza is an official character from Toriyama's Manga: Neko Majin Z. Freeza doesn't appear in the Manga, but he is mentioned by Vegeta (who, again under his orders, is sent to Earth to find Freeza's missing son), and Kuriza reffered to him as "Daddy" or "Papa". Plus... he never showed any signs of liking males. Freeza isn't homo.
- Bi: Lol, wut? He never showed any signs of liking males!!!
- I couldn't find much info about this, but I was convinced by a scientific article, which states that hermaphrodites "No pueden engendrar ni tener hijos" ("can't engender nor have children"). Plus, I've read a comment from a woman-hermaphrodite saying that she is really sad because she is not able to/ will never have biological children. But someone wasn't convinced.
- So, I asked help from:

"no seriously, I disagree. Something that shouldn't be left out here is the fact that Freeza was created by a Japanese man in the late 80's. Freeza was initially supposed to be the ultimate villain. Following Akira's logic (back then, I don't know about now) an ultimate villain, emperor of the universe, tyrant and all powerful thing should be a man 100%. hermaphrodites have both male and female organs. According to 80's japanese logic female parts would weaken Freeza, because a woman and everything that makes her a woman is weak.
Americans have a very different culture than the Japanese. Japanese logic is very different from western and especially American logic. Freeza is, by the Japanese culture, definitely a man. He's just a sinister creep. He acts like a man that is integrated in a European royal court in the 18th century. Those men wore wigs, ribbons, tights, high heels and make-up, but f*cked every courtlady in the palace.
In the USA if a male hero (or villain for that matter) isn't big and buff like Superman or doesn't listen to his testosteron he doesn't really fit in the picture of 'manly-ness' Americans grew up with.
If you're still not convinced picture an exposed King Cold making Cooler and Freeza. Do you think Toriyama wanted THAT? (shudders) lol"
Thanks, Queenie. There's no way Freeza can be a herm.
- Seriuosly...
Here's an opinion from a Deviant here on dA: "when Furiza's shown to be naked in his fourth form, he obviously doesn't have any reproductive organs".
Well, first of all, I want to say that, in the two dubs I could understand, being them, the Latin American Spanish one (which was translated according to the Japanese version) and FUNi's dub, both, Freezer and Frieza mention "my parents" (father and mother). What does this mean? In both dubs he says "parents", no "father". So... it can't be a mistranslation...?? Explain me that first. - "he obviously doesn't have any reproductive organs"
People, first tell me why doesn't Kuririn (Krillin) have a nose, although he is a human who needs to breathe, then you guys can talk me about Freeza's missing organs... - But let's listen to
again: " i've always known freeza's a boy, it's kinda obvious actually. he is a very sophisticated dude. and maybe in his culture he's being very manly.
i have another reason why he is specifically male and not, like some other people believe, asexual.
asexual creatures pass down their genes and THEIRS only (or they wouldn't be asexual), so the children of an asexual being have to look exactly like the parent. (except for environmental influences, like insufficient nourishment, or too much, injuries that left scars, lack of or abundance of sunlight, plastic surgery, excersize)
Now compare Freeza to Cooler. There's no way King Cold could have produced children that are so different from each other (and from him!) without anybody's assistance.
And the 'missing' genitals could very well be hidden inside his body. This is also the case with reptiles and Freeza is lizard-like creature."
It isn't that hard... just look at the guy. Bad guys aren't just muscles and brute force. See, the guy has brain. And he is slim so he can move fast and fight without limitations. Or are you going to tell me that you didn't learn anything from Trunks' SSJ 2 transformation??
But if you still want to see a bad guy with muscles, I remind you to look at Freeza's second, third and 100% forms. The guy DOES have muscles, plus an elegant attitude, good battle strategies and awesome fighting skills. WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT???.
Enough?
Read my lips: F R E E Z A :: I S :: H E T E R O S E X U A L :: M A L E and that's all!!!!!!!
If you are a Fan of Freeza and want to support him, it would be great if you could add something related with this in your signature or/and in your Journal.
I'll write examples, maybe you can copy and paste one of them into your signature. Modify them if you wish (in a positive way of course):
- Did you think Freeza was a girl or something else? :disbelief*: http:*//starlightdreamspirit.deviantart.com/journal/25454226/
Support him!
(Remember to delete all the asterisks you see in order for the phrase to work correctly!)
You can make your own phrases.
You ARE AUTHORIZED to take info from this Journal and use it in your deviantART Journal or in any other website. We must help Freeza!
Now, S P R E A D ::: T H E ::: W O R D!!!!!
The name Toriyama originally gave to this character is Freeza/Furiiza. The company FUNimation gave this character the name Frieza. I'll copy and paste information from the Discussion Page of the English language Wikipedia Article for Frieza, by Onikage725: "Frieza" doesn't even make sense, pronunciation-wise. Obviously in English those letters together make a y sound, not a long e, and as such should sound like Fry-za when said with that spelling. In Japanese, i is pronounced like a long e and e is like a long a. So that would imply a name that sounded like Free-ayza (which is clearly not how it is pronounced in any version). Also, "Frieza" doesn't preserve the pun. Freeza and Coola (and King Cold) are obviously puns of a chilly nature. "Frieza" looks more like the plural or past-tense forms of the word fry, which implies heat, which is the exact opposite of the intended pun. The dub basically has a typo. They pronounce it correctly. The manga spells it correctly. It's common knowledge what the correct romanization is..
Thank you for your help!
